In view of the recent Lion City Cup (LCC):
As much as there are supporters pledging allegiance, there are also haters. Singaporeans are a funny lot.
Nothing seem to be able to please them. Nothing seem to be good enough.
When the boys are winning, Singaporeans proudly proclaim that the boys have ignited a long lost passion of soccer. Some even compared them to the Senior team citing that the boys should teach a trick or two to the seniors. When the boys are loosing, no motivation whatsoever was given to further spur them on. Everyone started condemning them citing that the team is overly hyped from YOG's bronze medal.
A stranger thing is that Singaporeans can be seen passionately supporting other foreign teams wearing their jerseys, waving their flags and all. Where is the so called patriotism?(Lets all forget about National day and reciting the pledge) This tournament is in our own country and yet our countrymen are as such. Even the local media is not motivational citing that the boys won with the help of the referees. These are 15 and 16 year olds playing "pure" soccer at their best.
Why "pure" you might ask?
These boys go out playing with their guts and do what they know best. A step over here, a step over there. They are not playing for money or lucrative contracts or crazily paid salaries. It is at its basic where they do not want to disappoint their parents and fans in the stands. They only want to do their best and there is alot more for them to learn in their footballing journey.
There is this group of supporters in the LCC that hasn't lost their passion and believe for the local boys. They cheered their hearts out hoping to be the 12th man motivating the team. What do fellow Singaporeans think of them? They are blocking my views, they are too rowdy, they are just glory hunters. When they sang our national anthem, Majulah Singapura, the speakers were blasting away music for the stadium. So much for respect.
From the recent GE, Singaporeans were ranting about Foreign Talents and their influx here. There was so much "hatred" and calls for change. Everyone's not proud of the Table Tennis team's achievements due to FTs, everyone's not proud of the Senior Lions Team due to a few FTs, these LCC boys are local boys and yet not everyone's supporting them. So what if we have Duric in the senior team? As long as he plays for the country and bleeds for the country, he's SINGAPOREAN.
Riding from the high of the LCC, everyone's suddenly concerned about keeping the boys together.
Where were you when they needed you?
Oh I have work and the timing clashes the organizers should know better, the tickets are too expensive how to support like that?
BULLSHITE
Let's see if these glory riding fans return during the next friendly.
When would that be?
Oh I have to check if I have work/meetings the next day..
I rest my case.
